I’m going to confess and admit that my husband made today’s project. That’s not to say that I didn’t try to make them but I kept screwing them up, and by the time he joined me on the floor of the garage (classy, eh?) I think he had decided that he should take the hammer from me for the safety of all living creatures within a 50 foot radius.

Anyway. I made geeky pendants inspired by a couple of our favorite A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones characters. I put mine on a lobster claw so that I can easily remove it and add it to whatever chain I’m wearing because I love it so much. My hubby took the other, kind of like morbid best friend half heart things, except less embarrassing and, according to my husband, less emasculating.

By the way: if you haven’t seen Game of Thrones or read the second book and you plan to then don’t google what these say. They’ll spoil stuff and that would suck for you.

Lookit!!

I’m going to go bitch in a corner by myself about the blister on my hand from the stupid hammer now.

Thanks to a very awesome person I have been borrowing a set of metal stamping tools and today I made some jewelry for myself and for my sister.

Can I just say that I should’ve found a hobby involving hitting shit with a hammer a LONG time ago? Yeah. Picture proof of what I’ve done:

I’m thinking I’m going to have to buy my own metal stamping tools. I’m addicted.

Happy Labor Day everyone!

Sorry to take so long to show you the finished* rooster lamp but I took almost a month trying to decide if I wanted to make a lamp shade or buy one. After a month I figured duh, buy one. So I did.

Tada!

I freaking love this thing. Maybe someday I’ll find a chicken lamp and have a matching pair!

*I’ve decided I want to add some fringe to the lamp shade so it’s not ENTIRELY finished yet. But mostly.

While I’m busy searching for the perfect lamp shade for the rooster lamp (or the perfect idea to make my own) I decided to do a quick and fun project with the kiddies on this dark and stormy night with the help of my sister and husband. We had a bunch of spaghetti jars that my brother-in-law had removed the labels from and saved and after seeing people make lanterns with old jars and glow sticks all over Pinterest (Pinterest is crafting crack, I swear) we decided it would be fun.

Super simple and quick and not too dirty. We dumped a little glitter in each jar, cracked a glow stick and then snipped the end and poured the glowy goodness inside, put the lid on and gave it a shake. The kids love them. They don’t last overly long but they were good for a few rounds of scary stories in the basement (yep, we make our kids play in the basement. It’s not as bad as it sounds, the spiders don’t eat much and asbestos is good for building lung strength, right?). So that’s something. If I was a drinker I might’ve had time for a long, leisurely glass of wine.

Anyway, photo of our results:

Have a good weekend everyone!

Update***

After the glowy goodness fades, well…then what? If you’re super cool like my sister you hot glue little LED candles to the jar lids. Kids are again enthralled.

I’m buying them flashlights for Christmas.

I’m spray painting a hideous rooster lamp in my garage at 10 o’clock on a Sunday night in the hopes that it will be awesome by the time I’m done.

This just has to end well.

P.S.

I missed you, blog.

P.S.S.

I may have spray paint in my nose. I should probably go look.

I’m so sorry that I haven’t gotten around to posting but truth be told I haven’t been crafting much of anything recently because I’ve been having some medical issues. I haven’t been to a doctor in years but finally went because of joint pain that was interfering with everyday life. My new doctor (who is fantastic) ordered a complete lab workup to check normal things as well as for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis since I have a family history of it as well as quite a few symptoms. She also gave me a prescription for Prozac for ongoing depression and anxiety issues.

Some of my labs came back indicating the possibility of RA so I go to see a rheumatologist next month. In the meantime the Prozac seems to be working, with the beneficial side effect of completely killing my appetite. This is a good thing in my mind since I really need to lose weight. No more mindless snacking for me, I’m not at all hungry!

The worst is the tiredness though. I’m exhausted. It comes on suddenly sometimes, I’ll be feeling fine and then instantly feel like I need to lie down. I don’t know if this is the Prozac or the possible RA or a combination of the two but it’s horrible. And I’m terrified of some of the meds I’ve read about for RA, they’re scary with some scary side effects (exhaustion? Yeah, I don’t need more of that!).

So right now I’m in blogging and crafting limbo while I try and figure out why my body is turning against me and what I can do about it. At 32 I feel like I’m too young for this. Blah.

I’m still crafting, never fear! I just haven’t been blogging about it. I’m currently working on illustrated postcards that I can put in little stationary wraps (illustrated by me, naturally!) but last night I started a quick project making braided rug coasters. Pic below:

I’ll be back later this weekend (hopefully) to share postcards and whatnot.

P.s.

I bought a butt ton of vintage sheets at Goodwill yesterday for $14!! LOVE IT!!

That would be me. I’m terribly afraid that I (still) don’t really have any crafting news to report. Which is nuts because I normally have to wade through all of the things I have going on, but right now there’s just…nothing. It has just been a quiet week for me, that’s all.  I think. I am actually planning on cleaning out two closets and reconfiguring my crafting area in the process. That might count, right?

Anyway, I finally got around to editing some of the photos from our family vacation to Tybee Island, GA waaaay back in March (it feels like so long ago, mainly because I just really want to go back). Here are a couple to at least give you something to look at. I took quite a few photos, I’ll try and get to a few of them every day.

The beautiful Tybee Island Lighthouse

O-H-I-O! As Ohioans we're required by law to do this everywhere we go...

And now I have to go because I just remembered that I do have some quick crafting to do, I need to make another  stationary wrap for my nephew who also needs a quick gift for his pen pal. My sewing machine will be so happy to see me! Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Just a post to say that I have nothing to post because I haven’t done a lick of sewing, or crafting of any kind for that matter, in a few days. I’m currently trying to survive statistics class and deal with sore joints  (I have a doctor’s appointment soon, I don’t know what the heck is wrong with me) and various other real life issues.

Real life kinda sucks sometimes, eh?

Anyway, I’ll hope to have something to post in this space soon. Peace and stuff.

This year my middle son was part of a wonderful program at his school for 4th graders where each kid writes letters back and forth with an older person called a “grand pal”. Get it? Pen pal/grand pal? Anyway.

He gets to meet his grand pal next week and I wanted to make a little gift for him to take to her since she has been so generous with him, both in writing letters and in sending him little things, and I immediately thought of Amanda Soule’s Gratitude Wraps which you can find here so I knew what I wanted to make but didn’t know if I had time until I saw this post on an online forum and I thought hey, that works!

I’m a big fan of simple.

That is EXACTLY what this project was, simple. I’m not going to tell you about how I ruined one placemat by accidentally sewing the pockets closed while sewing on the ribbon because, frankly, that makes me look like an idiot (big thanks to my husband for not laughing at me) but once I remembered to use my brain this entire project took about 20 minutes. I popped a little notebook for addresses and whatnot inside along with some blank thank you cards and envelopes and a cute pen and left a pocket open for whatever else might be needed (I’m going to add some stamps as well) and it was done. This is one of my favorite sewing projects so far! Easy! I think this would be great for keeping your bills organized too, and easy to carry with you when you go to pay them (for those of us who still mail our bills the old fashioned way anyway).

I’ll shut up now and share the photos:

Neatly folded up and…

Ta da!

And the best part is that the entire project cost maybe $5 (I have leftover stationary and ribbon so maybe less than that). Nice.

It’s Monday, a new start! Let’s make this an awesome week!
